todd youngblood
about
todd youngblood is a folk country artist from dallas, texas. i was first introduced to todd through a mutual friend who referred him to me since he was itching to get his music made.
we planned a day to get into the studio together so i could hear his songs and figure out how we were going to approach producing it. at the time it was just his vocals and his acoustic guitar, which didn’t last long as we eventually started throwing the kitchen sink at every song we made. several electric guitars, bass, drums, and even hired my dear friends, noah elkins and joe nelson to lay down some killer cello and organ.
i had made country music in the past as an experiment and to familiarize myself with the production techniques of the genre, but had never done it officially, so this was my first nosedive into it. we had a great time figuring out the direction we wanted to take each song, and todd was very vocal and had great input on how he wanted it to sound, which is always appreciated.
i loved our collaboration process and dynamic working together. todd’s an extremely friendly and pleasant person to work with, and i enjoyed our time in the studio just chatting when taking breaks from work. he’s since moved to dallas to continue pursuing his music career and has been making big strides ever since.

releases
todd’s self-titled debut was his first release as a recording artist, so i was grateful to have been there to help him get it made. we had such a good time making this record, and todd’s songs have been stuck in my head for years ever since. he’s got such a lighthearted way of writing music and is a great lyrical storyteller.
the way we produced most of these songs started off with him laying down some guitar tracks and vocals — the main structure of the song, so that we could then begin adding other full-band elements to the arrangement. i added some slide guitar, piano, and we began reaching out to musician friends of mine to get them and their respective instruments involved on certain songs as well.
we wanted each song to stand on its own, so we tried to brainstorm on different distinct elements to be featured in each one, and i dare say we did a pretty bang-up job. everything came together so nicely and i think this record was a great way to start his career as the todd youngblood.
