pacmanthemovie

about

pacmanthemovie is not for the faint of heart. they are an ear-splitting hardcore band from houston, texas featuring the chaotic and technical stylings of wynton davis

i met wynton during my days performing shows with islands of pear, as our bands would find ourselves on the same bills fairly often. he was performing under the alias in the low, a metal/electronica solo project of his. we got to know each other pretty well and eventually linked up to work on music together.

he began bringing songs he had pre-produced on his own and wanted my hands on them for engineering and production. these songs would later become the cannon fodder for what is now known as pacmanthemovie. it was hands down the most insane music i’d ever worked on, pulling me completely out of my comfort zone in terms of the style of music i was accustomed to making.

he eventually began recruiting local musicians to record parts in the studio and perform the songs live, and they’ve been at it ever since. their live shows are some of the most frenzied, volatile, and fun events i’ve witnessed in person, and they always leave a crowd speechless. they’re beyond impressive musicians with an even more powerful ability to rile up a crowd, and working with them was an experience i’ll never forget.

pacmanthemovie’s self-titled debut was, as i mentioned, an absolute fever dream to work on. i’ve heard quite a bit of savage and unrestrained music in my days, but nothing will ever top the look on my face when i first heard this stuff.

wynton had written and pre-produced most of the music before coming into the studio with me, and my job was to simply recreate it with him and his crewmates in a more professional setting, offering any helpful insight i could along the way.

making this album with them was by far some of the most fun i’ve had in the studio. it took me for such a ride while working on it that i usually had to go lie down after each session just to recoup my sanity, and i say that positively.

what’s even more baffling about the whole experience is just how friendly and likable all these guys were. they often say the heavier the music, the nicer the musicians, and this project confirmed it for me. i don’t think i’ll ever get the chance to get my hands on a project as wild and entertaining as this, and it will remain a vivid memory for the rest of my life.
