between trees
about
between trees is the atmospheric alt-rock brainchild of victor (vic) gonzales from houston, texas. i met vic through a mutual friend while living in austin years ago and we hit it off one night out on the town.
we stayed in touch and a few years down the line he contacted me about working on music together. we linked up and got to work on some songs he was cooking up in his free time.
we worked on a few different projects together, all with slightly varying styles yet all falling within the same realm of sound. one of the projects that stuck around was between trees, which went by a handful of other names in the past before settling on the one it has now. we created about an album’s worth of music together and collaborated on adding our own bits and pieces to each song.
a majority of the music has been temporarily removed from streaming platforms as he is currently in the process of re-working it to fit a new sound of his, but one of them is currently available to stream.

“wasted pt. II” is one of the very first songs vic and i created using the spacey, rock sound featured in the track. most of the songs we made contained some mix of acoustic guitar, synthesizers, electric guitar, bass, drums, and echoing vocals. it created an experience that gave the listener enough solid foundation to mentally attach to, but was avant-garde enough to keep them suspended in surrealism.
working on this music was a challenge for me as i’m more accustomed to very structured music, and vic was all about pushing the envelope on what a song “could” and “couldn’t” do. it was an awesome learning experience for me because it forced me out my comfort zone and broadened my horizons a bit on how to approach writing and producing music moving forward.
