glimmer
about
glimmer is a hardcore pop-punk project from houston, texas stemming from the minds of matt lacobie and ryan leal.
matt was referred to me by a local booking agent my band knew well from working together frequently in the past. he wanted to begin taking some music he had been writing and get it recorded and produced. my name came up since i had begun to develop somewhat of a local name for my work with other artists in the scene.
he was a super nice guy and we clicked musically right away. to be quite honest, i’m not sure what ever happened to the project after we worked together, as i never saw any updates or new material on their social media. life gets in the way of this kind of stuff more often than we’d hope it would, but it happens. nevertheless, it was a fun and quick project and i’m happy that i was able to help him build a foundation for his music.

releases
“turmoil” was the first song from glimmer put out into the world. working with matt to get this song produced was a lightning-fast and enjoyable experience, and it was released a few weeks afterward. he came in, laid some guitar tracks down to a metronome, ryan added some bass underneath it, and then i came in and mapped out drum samples to accompany it all. after that, all that was left was to track matt’s vocals.
i want to say he knocked his vocals out in 3-4 takes max, so overall the entire song was mostly completed in a single 2-3 hour studio session, which is impressive, to say the least.
i feel this song is an excellent encapsulation of heavy pop-punk. it brings back nostalgic power-chord heavy guitars from the early 2000s with the angry and rabid vocals of today’s hardcore scene.
