ball.ard
about
ball.ard is the dreampop brainchild of ken ballard from houston, texas.
ken played keys at a church i was working live sound for at the time. we would chat music and tabletop games between services and eventually hit it off. he’s an extremely talented multi-instrumentalist, and a fantastic songwriter and producer.
he’s been involved with a wide array of different projects in the music community, and jumps between them seamlessly. one of them being ball.ard, a solo endeavor of his. his music is a beautiful blend of vintage-esque motifs and shoegazy musings, and is some of the most easy listening music i’ve ever heard.
it’s tough to keep up with ken, as it seems he’s got his nose down into an impressive new project every time i talk to him. he’s such a friendly and charismatic person, and he’s exactly the type of musician i’d want to keep close by.

ken approached me about a tune he’d been working on and wanted some outside input regarding engineering and production. truth be told, i didn’t feel the song needed much, as his work already tickled my ears.
we went back and forth a few times with the project making suggestions as to what we felt could improve it, and ultimately all it needed was a few small tweaks to get it where it needed to be.
“on my mind” is such a perfect song for a rainy day with no plans. i admire ken’s writing for how it somehow demands your attention without asking anything of you, and the intense musical styling that goes into his work is mind-blowing considering how effortlessly it flows out of him. it’s such a simple song yet keeps you with your ear to the door until the very end.
working with ken was an honor because i hold him in such high regard as a musician and an artist, and i’d gladly take on another project from him any day.
